Union Report 4/8/2020 – Corona Virus Update

4/8/2020

Corona Virus Update —  Company Hotline for COVID 19 is 877 342 3908

The Union and the Company met yesterday at 2pm as scheduled. No exposures to the Virus were reported today, the employees that have been out on self-quarantine with pay should be returning to work as early as tomorrow once they clear through the Company medical staff.

The manufacture of medical equipment in Palo Alto and Sunnyvale will initiate at the end of the week. Represented members have been identified to work 2 shifts over the next month, the company will notify us if the program will be extended and when other represented employees are assigned. We will be monitoring this program, its importance to the country cannot be overstated.

The company has also informed us that managers will continue to receive the latest policy changes and directions from senior leadership through HR. We will need to know if any information from front line management causes you concern. The Company indicated their willingness to over communicate with managers, the more information the better for all.

Also discussed was the time elapsed between identifying an exposed employee, initiating and determining the sanitizing process required, and identifying others in contact; directly or indirectly and putting them in quarantine. As I wrote yesterday- A comprehensive interview by LM Medical is conducted with any person of interest to determine specific locations and individuals who may have had direct contact. If you haven’t been asked to stay home, then you have not been identified as at risk.

The Union stressed the importance of better disclosure with regards to locations in the plant where possible exposures occurred.  The Union provided an example from another company with the type of detailed disclosure that is acceptable.   Labor Relations and legal will review it.

Hand Sanitizers are coming to all bay area locations. Check with your management and building leads, they will have to put in an order for accounting and inventory purposes. SCF facility will also update their communication efforts, receive hand sanitizers and be reminded of the 6ft rule of distancing- at work and on breaks. Masks will become available to all locations and used where the CDC guidelines cannot be met – until then use cloth masks to cover yourself. Brothers and Sisters – we hear you and are working with your management on your behalf. Other specific items will be discussed during the safety meeting today.

Remember the following:

  • If you feel sick, stay home and call the hotline number above
  • Social distancing – keep at least 6 feet between you and others when possible including lunch & breaks
  • Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
  • Try not to touch your face or your eyes
  • For those who are not sick and don’t feel comfortable at work, discuss this with your manager and take time off – Unpaid or using Paid Absence Leave or Vacation, if approved

The process for those who don’t feel well is to call the Hotline and discuss your symptoms and how you feel. If you are directed to self-quarantine, a notice will be sent to your manager and your labor relations business partner.

Your input has been valuable; please continue to pass it on to your stewards, Dimas Resendez, David Johnson, Kimberlee Hamilton Alarcon, Brian Babcock and Rod Thole. Bulletins will also be posted on LL2228 website www.iamll2228.org

All these actions and more are how we are going to keep the locations safe and healthy. We will keep generating these bulletins to keep you all informed.

Fraternally,
