Corona Virus Update — Company Hotline for COVID 19 is 877 342 3908
There were no new cases of exposure or contact to report today. Yesterday we reported that an employee who had been working from home since the end of March may have tested positive for the Corona Virus. It was determined that they contracted the contagion off campus while teleworking and that there was and is no risk in the workplace in this case.
May 1st, 2020 is still identified as the target date for payment of up to $500.00. Labor Relations and management will review each employee to determine if they worked on site, your Union will review as well where there may be conflict. Remember, the company stated that approximately 99% of the represented employees will get the full amount; other represented members who may have teleworked may get a prorated portion or may not be eligible if they have not been required to work on-site.
Masks, Social Distancing and Break Rooms – LR had talks with department leaders regarding the use of masks and social distancing in the workplace and breakrooms. Masks – are available and employees are being urged to use them as required. The Company will be sending two cloth masks to each employee and so will Your Union – see the example below. We want to know if masks are not being used. Contact the committee and we will discuss this with the company. Social distancing – it is important for all of you to be aware and to actively practice it. Also discussed today, certain actions such as reducing chairs and tables, taping off the ground to direct where people may take their breaks. SCF is already starting this along with staggering breaks/lunches. Reduction of arbitrary foot traffic within the buildings was also discussed; appointments may have to be arranged to enter areas outside of your department.
Air showers – Three air showers that are used to enter the clean room for Bldg. 158 have been disabled. Also, the inner glass door will be left open as not to trap anyone unnecessarily in the air shower.
The Medical gowns and face shields – we learned yesterday that the units produced so far is averaging more than the original estimate of units per day. We should have more details next week.
Remember the following:
• If you feel sick, stay home and call the hotline number above
• Social distancing – keep at least 6 feet between you and others when possible including lunch & breaks
• Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
• Try not to touch your face or your eyes
For those who are not sick and don’t feel comfortable at work, discuss this with your manager and take time off – using Unpaid, Paid Absence Leave or Vacation, if approved.
The process for those who don’t feel well is to call the Hotline and discuss how you feel. If you are directed to self-quarantine, a notice will be sent to your manager and your labor relations business partner.
Your input has been valuable; please continue to pass it on to your stewards, Dimas Resendez, David Johnson, Kimberlee Hamilton Alarcon, Brian Babcock and Rod Thole. Bulletins will also be posted on LL2228 website www.iamll2228.org
Your Union and the Company are meeting daily, we started working on this issue early in March and are now starting to see results through action and education. We will all get through this together and be a stronger Union because of this.
Fraternally,
Kevin Lee
