Corona Virus Update — Company Hotline for COVID 19 is 877 342 3908
Late this afternoon, it was learned that an employee working from home is highly likely to have tested positive for the Corona Virus. The last time that this person had worked in Sunnyvale was approximately two weeks ago, it looks as if this employee came into contact with the virus while working from home and not on campus; details to follow.
Approximately May 1st, the award of up to $500.00 will be direct deposited. Remember, the company stated that approximately 99% of the represented employees will get the full amount; other represented members who may have teleworked may get a prorated portion or may not be eligible since they have not been required to work on-site. Labor Relations will review each case that requires attention and your Union will review as well.
We are still waiting for the LM legal department to respond to the union’s request to provide you with the locations of specific buildings where exposure is discovered, within reason and discretion. Currently the Crisis Management Team is looking into our request.
It was discussed that although we received the masks last week, not all employees are using them for whatever reason; let’s be clear about this – regardless of how comfortable the masks might be – if you are working continually within 6 ft of a coworker, it is important that you wear a mask for your sake and the sake of others. Labor Relations will be addressing this with management. Break rooms and social distancing will also be discussed since we are hearing that employees are not following the 6ft rule on breaks. Please follow the CDC recommendations; we will inform you what may come of this as we learn more.
The Company also informed us that they will be sending two cloth masks to each employee, your union will be distributing two masks with the IAM logo, more details to come; see image below.
Remember the following:
• If you feel sick, stay home and call the hotline number above
• Social distancing – keep at least 6 feet between you and others when possible including lunch & breaks
• Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
• Try not to touch your face or your eyes
For those who are not sick and don’t feel comfortable at work, discuss this with your manager and take time off – using Unpaid, Paid Absence Leave or Vacation, if approved.
The process for those who don’t feel well is to call the Hotline and discuss how you feel. If you are directed to self-quarantine, a notice will be sent to your manager and your labor relations business partner.
Your input has been valuable; please continue to pass it on to your stewards, Dimas Resendez, David Johnson, Kimberlee Hamilton Alarcon, Brian Babcock and Rod Thole. Bulletins will also be posted on LL2228 website www.iamll2228.org
Your Union and the Company are meeting daily, we started working on this issue early in March and are now starting to see results through action and education. We will all get through this together and be a stronger Union because of this.
Fraternally,
Kevin Lee
