Corona Virus Update — Company Hotline for COVID 19 is 877 342 3908
The Company and the Union met this afternoon to continue to review progress and to discuss your concerns about the Covid 19 virus and how it is has changed the workplace.
There has not been any further reported cases of exposure or prolonged contact with any person who might be affected today; additionally, the represented employees who have been on quarantine have returned to work. There may be some pay issues related to KNDS leave, but the company and your Union are looking to work these out.
Your Union and the Company continue to discuss your issues. In discussing additional compensation, it was learned today that the special award of up to $500.00 for employees required to work on-site will not be taxed. We will continue to discuss this matter with the company and forward the information to you.
We are also continuing to discuss with the company about disclosing, within reason and discretion, the specific locations where COVID-19 exposures do occur. The company’s legal department will review and respond; however, I believe that we are making progress – I know that they hear us and we will continue to report that progress to you.
The manufacture of medical equipment began last week, and we will continue to monitor the progress in this support effort. This is currently anticipated to run for the next 30 days; we will keep you informed if this changes.
It was reported that hand sanitizers and masks have arrived. Check with your management about the masks, especially if the 6ft distance cannot be maintained. In the meantime, it is advisable to use a personal cloth mask. If you are a steward, it is encouraged to also maintain this 6ft rule when conducting Union business. The use of online Skype meetings is strongly encouraged.
Remember the following:
• If you feel sick, stay home and call the hotline number above
• Social distancing – keep at least 6 feet between you and others when possible including lunch & breaks
• Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds
• Try not to touch your face or your eyes
• For those who are not sick and don’t feel comfortable at work, discuss this with your manager and take time off – Unpaid or using Paid Absence Leave or Vacation, if approved
The process for those who don’t feel well is to call the Hotline and discuss how you feel. If you are directed to self-quarantine, a notice will be sent to your manager and your labor relations business partner.
Your input has been valuable; please continue to pass it on to your stewards, Dimas Resendez, David Johnson, Kimberlee Hamilton Alarcon, Brian Babcock and Rod Thole. Bulletins will also be posted on LL2228 website www.iamll2228.org
All these actions and more are how we are going to keep the locations safe and healthy. We will keep generating these bulletins to keep you all informed.
Fraternally,
Kevin Lee
